About ICL, Our Founders and Instructors The Institute for Collaborative Leadership is a collective of individuals from unique backgrounds united by a passionate belief in an emerging new paradigm of leadership, one based on collaboration. The mission of ICL is to help develop a new type of leader who can help foster imaginative, innovative and vibrant organizations capable not only of adapting to change, but of leading the change. Pollyanna Pixton
President, Evolutionary Systems Pollyanna Pixton is widely recognized for her ability to lead the collaborative efforts of talented people who want to expand what they already do very well to being even better. She works with executives and teams inside corporations and organizations to improve their productivity and effectiveness and to achieve lasting results. She founded Evolutionary Systems in 1996, and brings over 35 years of executive and managerial experience from a variety of successful business and information technology ventures to her work as a consultant. Ms Pixton's education includes a Master's degree in Computer Science, three years of graduate studies in Theoretical Physics, and a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. She was primarily responsible for managing the building of the Swiss Electronic Stock Exchange, developing sophisticated control systems for electrical power plants throughout the world, and merging the complex technologies and data systems of large financial institutions. Her background includes leading the development of complex e-commerce projects, real-time applications, positioning systems, and generating original computational research. Ms. Pixton is a keynote speaker, author, and lectures at the university level on Business Ethics, Leadership, and Organizational Development. In 2004, she was selected as one of 30 Visionary Women to Watch, a program recognizing women who bring new insight to their respective fields. For the past three years, she participated in the Agile Development efforts. She co-founded the Agile Project Leadership Network and serves as an Executive on the board. Pam Gardiol
President, Gardiol & Associates For over 20 years, Ms. Gardiol has consulted with organizations to help individuals and teams increase performance effectiveness that aligns with organizational goals. Working in the public, private and non-profit sectors, she has facilitated transformational learning. through strategic change programs, training and one-on-one coaching.. A sample of her clients includes: 3M, Division of Wildlife Resources (Utah), National Weather Service, Snohomish County (Washington), City of Seattle, Nordstrom, and Southern California Water Company. She teaches at the University of Utah, University of Phoenix, and Webster University, She has a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and Psychology, and a Master's degree in Organizational Management. She holds certifications in Meyer-Briggs, 360-degree assessments, Achieve-Global organizational training, and DiSC personal assessments. An international trainer, she has worked with numerous organizational cultures. She is a past president of the American Society of Training and Development, Utah Chapter, served twice on the Governor's Quality Award Committee, served on Governor-elect Huntsman's (Utah) transition team, and is the past chair of the Ogden City Planning Commission. Niel Nickolaisen
CIO and Director of Strategic Planning, Headwaters, Inc. Niel Nickolaisen has held technology executive (CIO) and operations executive (COO) positions in large- and medium-sized enterprises, typically in turnaround roles. He is expert in the rapid / adaptive selection, implementation, and deployment of enterprise business applications, analysis tools, and systems. He has developed a strategic and tactical alignment model that results in significantly improved returns on technology and business initiatives (by both improving the benefits and reducing the costs and risks). He has in-depth knowledge of enterprise management technologies, enterprise resource planning applications, and storage management tools. He holds two patents for enterprise management tools. He is past President of the Intermountain chapter of the Society for Information Management. He holds an MS in Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BS in Physics from Utah State University. He was named IT Executive of the Year at the 2004 Gartner Research Mid-Sized Enterprise Summit. | |||

Chris Noble
President, Noble Photographic Arts and Founder of SagaWorks, Ltd. Forging a career out of his passions for adventure and creative expression, Chris Noble is a writer, photographer, lecturer, and social activist, as well as a veteran of over thirty expeditions to the most extreme corners of the earth, including: Everest, McKinley, Ama Dablam, the jungles of Borneo, the Arctic, and remote cultures in Bhutan and Burma (Myanmar). American Photo wrote "the secret to Noble's success is that there is no dividing line between adventure and his photography." His work has appeared in hundreds of publications including Outside, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, and Life Magazines, as well as books such as "Exposure" (The Best Photographs from Outside Magazine); "Malaysia: Heart of Southeast Asia" (Archipelago Press); and "To the Summit" (Black Dog & Leventhal). A book of his black and white landscape images from Utah's Escalante Region will be published by the University of Arizona Press in autumn 2005. Noble served for ten years as the primary advertising photographer for The North Face Inc. He has been a contributing editor at Powder and Outdoor Photographer Magazines, as well as a technical advisor on product development for The North Face and Lowepro, a manufacturer of technical camera packs. Blending the world's wisdom traditions with thirty years of experience leading expeditions to the most extreme regions of the globe, Noble guides participants in discovering a new definition of leadership for our changing world, as well as discovering and cultivating the inner source of leadership which lies within each of us. | |||

Tim Shultz
President and CEO, United Way of Davis County Tim Shultz brings a diverse background of more than eight years of direct service and public policy work to the Institute. He has a proven record of managing complex projects, building consensus among diverse interests, and turning ideas into reality and has led numerous successful policy campaigns. As Project Manager, Tim uses the collaborative model to deliver the Homelss Information Management System to agencies in the state of Utah expected to complete in September 2005. He recently completed a Masters of Public Administration at the University of Utah. | |||

Brooke Williams
Executive Director, Murie Center, Jackson Hole, WY Brooke Williams is a consultant to businesses, local governments, and non-profit organizations on issues of management, social entrepreneurship, and compatible economic development. For the past thirty years, Brooke has actively pursued adventure in wild landscapes and he believes in using lessons learned from nature's ability to adapt to constantly changing conditions in organizational transformation He is currently developing marketing and operational strategies a brokerage company in Seattle; implementing a management program at an eco-lodge in Boulder, Utah; exploring the potential for a facility of higher education in Moab, Utah; and conducting in depth business planning for a social venture in British Columbia. Brooke has worked with San Cristobal Coffee, Round River Conservation Studies, Denver Musuem of Nature and Science, National Parks and Conservation, and Boulder Mountain Lodge, among others. In the past, Brooke has owned and operated three small businesses. Brooke has an MBA in Sustainable Business from the Bainbridge Graduate Institute and a Biology degree from the University of Utah. He has been the keynote speaker and panelist at numerous meetings, conferences, and workshops. He has authored Utah: A Celebration of the Landscape with photography by Tim Hill, Halflives: Reconciling Work and Wildness, other books and many articles. | |||
